Citizens take on mining firms

According to the Independent newspaper, El Salvador (Central America’s smallest country) may be becoming the anti-mining capital of the world.

In September, the municipality of San Jose Las Flores in the hills of Chalatenango answered the question: “Are you in agreement with metallic exploration and mining in the municipality?”. A resounding 99% said “No”.
